Volunteer - Version2

Volunteer

Giving the gift of yourself

We greatly cherish the time that our volunteers give to the society based on their love of the history of our area. If you would like to join in, please register to become one of our volunteers. Everyone is welcome; you do not need to be a member of the Historical Society to volunteer.

Our volunteers not only enjoy the historical work that needs to be done; it is a fun way to meet and interact with a great group of like-minded neighbors who become good friends along the way, working for a common goal.

You can help us by:

  • Greeting visitors to the Mesier Homestead during our scheduled tour days and special events (usually one Sunday/month, but occasionally mid-week),

  • Helping a tour guide during special group tours by accompanying the guide, or remaining downstairs with visitors who cannot go upstairs and sharing with them a video-recording of the upstairs portion of the tour,

  • Assisting in the gift shop during tour days,

  • If you are comfortable with computer work, we need assistance with our archives by scanning documents and photos,  documenting them and catalogue them to our database,

  • Donating items of historical interest and/or significance from the local area to the Wappingers Historical Society for inclusion in our archives.

Mesier Homestead

Greeters/Tour Guides/Administrative

Do you have a passion for history and enjoy sharing your discoveries with others? The 1741 Mesier Homestead and Museum welcomes new Docents and Greeters for our regular tour days and special events, as well as those interested in organizing some of our archives.

You do NOT need to be a member of the Historical Society to be a volunteer. Training is provided.  We welcome high school juniors and seniors, college students and the adult community to discover the surprising history of the Mesier Homestead and the surrounding area, and then share your enthusiasm with others!
