#101: Power Through History: Behind-the-Scenes Tour for your group of up to Ten (10) people of the Historic 1908 Wappingers Falls Hydroelectric Plant with Harry & Sarah Terbush – plus $100 Gift Certificate to Casa Ortega Restaurant
The Wappingers Falls Hydroelectric Plant was originally constructed as part of an 1800s industrial complex known as “The Bleachery”. In the early 1900s with the construction of the penstock, the massive pipe that controls water flow along the Wappingers Creek, the building transformed to a source of electric power. Owners Harry Terbush and Sarah Bower-Terbush have operated the hydroelectric plant since 1988 and are passionate about its history and operation. They are excited to share a behind-the-scenes look at this storied institution!
This Auction item offers the opportunity for your group of up to 10 people to join Harry & Sarah Terbush on a behind-the-scenes tour of the history and operation of the Wappingers Hydroelectric Plant, learn about the Penstock, and get a fabulous view of the falls from the back deck! Afterward, enjoy a delicious meal with a $100 gift certificate to the nearby Casa Ortega Restaurant.
On the Hydroelectric tour, visitors can learn about its rich history and the mechanics of its operation. You'll have an opportunity to check out everything from the original 1919 turbine to the 1930s turbine that came from a gold mine in Yukon. There is an abundance of artifacts, and even a slate control panel from the 1932 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid. The Wappingers Falls Hydroelectric plant is located at 105 McKinley Street, within Market Street Industrial Park.
Specializing in modern and traditional Mexican cuisine and offering a variety of specialty cocktails, Casa Ortega is a family-owned and operated restaurant located in the heart of the Village of Wappingers Falls. Located at 32 Market Street, it’s “a stone’s throw” from the hydroelectric plant, which makes it a perfect location for a pre- or post- tour bite.
The Winner of this auction will receive contact information from the WHS office, and you’ll be able to arrange a tour date with Harry & Sarah Terbush directly.
