About the event

Sean McCarthy, WHS member, artist and Associate Professor of Art at Lehman College of the City University of New York will discuss the Henry Billings murals which are located in the former Wappingers Falls Post Office. The Post Office, now the village police station, was a project from President Roosevelt's New Deal WPA program. These murals depict the village's well-known waterfall and surrounding activity at different points in time - one from 1780, the other from 1880.  Learn about these scenes of village history from an artist's perspective—including subject, form, technique, and (art) historical context.

In addition, the Wappingers Falls Police Department has graciously offered us access to the lobby area of the former Post Office prior to the talk.  Attendees have the opportunity to see the murals in person from 6:30pm - 6:45pm that evening.  Please enter via the front of the building, from the stairs located at the intersection of Route 9D and East Main Street.  (the address for the Police Station is 2628 South Avenue Wappingers Falls; the site of the talk is located one block up the street at 9 South Mesier Avenue).

This informative and  interesting event is part of our Speaker Series programming. The public is invited to attend. WHS member admission is free, non-member suggested donation of $5.00. Light refreshments will be served. Seating is limited and is on a first come/first serve basis.  Please RSVP to help us plan attendance and to be added to our mailing list. (please note, an RSVP does not save you a seat).
