Barrels and beer – a perfect combination!

The making and use of barrels has a long history. Traditionally crafted for the storage and transport of both wet and dry goods, barrels made commerce possible. American white oak is the ideal wood for barrelmaking (Quercus is the latin name for the oak genus). Learn about the ancient art of barrel making from John Cox, who is an artisanal cooper and founder of Quercus Cooperage of High Falls, NY.  Mr. Cox will talk about the history and cultural heritage of coopering and the process of barrel making. Enjoy a beer while reflecting on the use of American oak barrels and the craftmanship which goes into each one of them.

This event is part of Wappingers Historical Society’s ongoing Speaker Series program. Ticket includes one tap pour from Obercreek Brewing Company which you can enjoy during this informative 90 minute presentation. Bubsy’s wood fire pizza will also be available for purchase.   Space is limited and advanced ticket purchase is required for this  special event.  21 and older, please.

This event takes place at Obercreek Brewing Company, 59 Marlorville Road, Wappingers Falls.  Check-in opens at 4:30pm;  the presentation by John Cox begins at 5pm. In case it rains, we'll be under the tent or in one of the buildings.  Tickets are non-refundable, but are transferrable.   All proceeds benefit with the Wappingers Historical Society.
